What candidates listen for when evaluating a new opportunity

There is one main thing candidates are listening for when evaluating opportunities.

They want to know that the opportunity is one where they can add value. Not only that the role is valuable, with autonomy and impact, but that they, personally, can add value.

They want to know that the personal skill set that they have honed over the years will be utilized. They want to pull out their toolbox and make a difference.

This isn’t a question with a blanket answer, and the answer is so critical to know.

I love starting out conversations by asking people where they feel they’re most valuable, and in what kind of role they’re most impactful. No two answers are the same. It helps determine off the bat if this is the right opportunity for them, and what we need to uncover together through the process.
