If you’re hiring or looking for a role outside your industry, you may need to forget everything you know about titles.
For example, when you hear the title “CIO” what comes to mind?
- Internal IT? EUC? Infrastructure? Reporting to a CTO who has all tech?
- Or perhaps CIO is the top tech role, and the CTO handles tech strategy and architecture?
When you hear the title “head of operations”, what comes to mind?
- Call center?
- Loan processing?
- Trade settlement and clearance?
- Let’s not forget about ops scattered throughout tech. Helpdesk and IT support? SOC/NOC? Cloud operations? DevOps?
Then don’t get me started on VP here vs VP there!
This is part of the reason I love recruiting. It’s so much more than matching titles.
