Framing your experience to get past the first round interview

Quick interview tip on how to frame your experience to get past the first round.

Are you talking about what you’ve done, or are you matching what you’ve done to what this company is trying to do? The position is open for a reason, and it’s your job as a candidate to draw the correlation between your background and how you’ll add value to the role.

Anything that’s different – point it out. For example, if you’re from big companies and this is a startup, recognize that, bring it up, and suggest how you’d approach things differently in this environment. Ask questions. Be curious.

There’s so much you can say about what you’ve done. Talk about what’s relevant to what the interviewer wants to hear.

If you don’t know, ask.
