Are you interviewing the company, or are they interviewing you?

Updated: Mar 6, 2021

Think of this as a dial. As you continue through the process, the dial starts to turn.

Even if you’re not actively looking, the dial still exists.

In the beginning the company is interviewing you. If you interview them too early, it's like asking for a prenup on the first date. And more than anything, you’ll run out of time and miss the opportunity to be invited back.

Your main goal of the first round interview is to get a second. Rest assured your questions will be answered, it’s just a matter of timing.

Pose your questions to your internal or external recruiter. They are your ally through the process. They can help you gauge where you stand.

As soon as you know that you’re being seriously considered, that is a good time to ask.

But don’t wait too long. Ask before you are presented with an offer.
